Why Is There a lot of Storage Being Used After 7.1.1 Update?

Ohh.. I thought you did factory reset from settings... Really weird that even after factory resetting from recovery didn't help... OP should give us explanation about this issue and fix it ASAP!

So with my little experiment done I can say that it looks like some of the "other" is most likely the obb files from games and larger apps, as it looks like a large chunk of my "apps" just moved to "other". But there is most definitely an extra 3.5 to 4.0GB taken up in "other" that was not there while I was using EXT4 format as opposed to F2FS.

I think I may have mentioned this before but maybe the only ones noticing the issue are the ones that have F2FS and it's a misread in storage because of the format change, why else would it read correctly when I did the OTA from 3.2.8 to 4.1.0 and all of a sudden come back with a factory reset from recovery.

I'm pretty sure the 3-4 Gb of space is actually the Android operating system itself. And you can't access it without rooting your device.

The previous storage measurements didn't include the space occupied by the Android OS.

If I look at the total amount of free space before and after upgrading from Android 7.0 to 7.1, the total free space is about the same, so this additional 3-4 is reflecting space that was always being used up, but previously wasn't visible to most users.

I remember on open beta 7 and 8 some people were complaining about high usage in other and it supposedly went away in open beta 9. So it may just be a random bug with regards to F2FS, it may not affect everyone

I don't think it's the system because on marshmallow (3.2.8) I had more available space after a factory reset than I did with 4.1.0
I used to have about 52gb available with a clean install before nougat, and now I barely have 49gb available

I was previously able to use that 3.5gb before nougat, and it even showed up in nougat before I did a factory reset to get the new filesystem. I doubt that it's just a coincidence

I've looked through every single folder and can't find my 9.4gb. It's just not there. Or if it is I can't find it.

Do you have games or very large apps installed? I noticed some of the "other" usage in mine was attributed to my games obb files, that used to just show up in "apps" when I go into storage. I have 16gb in "other" and I am positive that all but 3.5gb is actually on my device

I went through the apps section in settings and noticed that app install sizes were unusually small. that and when I flashed back to 3.2.8 to check the difference in amount of total storage used with the same setup was about 3.5gb, so I'm attributing the large "other" section as some of those files ending up there

Okay you're right. My other folder is 9.4gb and I've probably got around 6gb of game files in there. One thing I've noticed is a folder called "oem log" and when I click on it, it says bt snoop. I delete it but it keeps coming back. Is that something to do with a Bluetooth log? Do you have that? Click on other then scroll down and see if you see a oem log folder.
