    hi guys,

I got one plus 5t from India and brought it to UK.

Everytime I double click on the unlock key, it does an emergency call. is there a setting to turn this off?

    will appreciate all your help.

    thanks,
    Ravi

I think the only way is to re set it up from scratch using UK as location along with a UK sim. It's a provision for India by Government law.

That is a law in India, best idea is not to press the power button twice.

Emergency call activates on triple-clicking the power button in India. not double click. According to Indian law all smartphones need to have a mechanism for activating emergency call without unlocking and without activating the screen.

I did start the phone in UK only with UK sim. don't think this button is a function of sim. based on other responses, I see now why there is no option to turn this off.

but I really wish they made the system which would understand that it is not a compulsion in other countries and gave the option to turn this off when you are not in India

If the phone is set up for India region, or using an Indian SIM, or on an Indian network it will activate. Other than that it shouldn't be there.

exactly, this should be the case as far as I'm aware:
you didn't still have an Indian SIM present in the phone as well when you did the below? even as secondary SIM?

I did actually. is there a work around if I pull out the Indian sim and then do some system settings again?

Use the reply option, or he won't be notified!
    @superplus
I don't think there's any way though without going throught the setup process again!

yes, without any Indian SIM in the device and while not being in India, you should be fine

it was a legal requirement which all devices had to comply with, that it should be possible to dial emergency services without unlocking the phone

Edit: see here for example https://www.windowscentral.com/indian-government-mandates-panic-button-all-phones-sold-country-2017

guys, at the risk of coming across as totally ignorant, can you please tell me what exactly do I need to do when you say setup process needs to be done again?
also, after I having done the setup with sim1, can I insert Indian sim in sim 2 and expect the emergency dial to be off?

I think you should be fine just removing it, please revert if this doesn't suffice.

sadly I think it will be automatically activated again, as soon as you insert the Indian SIM.

putting an India sim card in either of the slots seems to automatically enable that feature. so having a non-india sim card in both trays seems to be the only solution for now.

If you have the SIM in the phone at all it will detect it is an Indian SIM and enable the function. Found this out when helping troubleshoot with a guy who was in Singapore (where they deal harshly with people who miscall the emergency services repeatedly, like arrest and fines harsh). Seems excessive, but then quite a lot of government laws around the world when it comes to technology are badly thought out/worded (the British government think they can stop encrypted messaging - but just for bad people...).
