As some of you have already noticed, we have made the decision to make a change to the system on chip that we’re using in the OnePlus One. It is our philosophy to constantly look to improve on everything we do. Once again we want to live up to that philosophy and prove ourselves to you. We will Never Settle and we hope that you won’t either.

While we had initially planned to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, we have been working very closely with Qualcomm and I am happy to announce that we will be offering the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. This is not just any Snapdragon 801, but rather the 8974AC clocked at 2.5GHz to offer the best experience possible.

We have chosen to move to Snapdragon 801 processor to take full advantage of the fastest SoC currently on the market. We wanted to bring the real-world performance enhancements gained from the many improvements the Snapdragon 801 offers over the 800. The higher CPU clock of 2.5GHz instead of 2.3GHz will bring more overall speed and an increased experience to the user. A higher GPU clock of 578MHz instead of 450MHz will allow for less time spent waiting for games and other graphics. The newer eMMC 5.0 standard will help to greatly improve the interface speed, reducing the amount of time needed to copy, move, open, modify, and save almost everything that you’ll have on your phone.

So far, we have also been quiet about the amount of RAM that the OnePlus One will have. I have been working very closely with our engineers here to determine the best way to absolutely maximize performance. After carefully considering each option, today I can tell you that the OnePlus One will come with 3GB of RAM. This way no matter how memory hungry your games and apps may be, you will never have to worry about delay due to a lack of available RAM.

I want to ensure you all that we are still on track for the full unveiling on April 23, 2014. The addition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 will not impact our launch plans. We look forward to sharing the One with the world very soon. It will definitely be worth the wait.

The OnePlus One will be the fastest phone on the market. The OnePlus One will be unique to offer both the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 as well as a full 3GB of RAM. I am very confident that everyone will see how impressive your phone experience can be with the One. With the amazing experience that CyanogenMod offers combined with all the great features that we’ve packed in, you can be sure that you will be able to multi-task, game, and be more productive than ever without having to settle or sacrifice.

I am running less than 1gb ram with a single core processor in my phone--I can't even comprehend the difference!

How about battery life? That was mentioned as one of the reasons you originally went with the Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AA. Will battery life be impacted?

3GB of Ram and a 2.5GHz 801. Forget the S5 and HTC One, I'll gladly get the OnePlus One.

Can not wait for the official unveiling. #NeverSettle

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you #NeverSettle. I have had my doubts but those doubts are now a non-factor. Despite not seeing the build and quality of materials, with forward progress like this, I have faith it will be just as fantastic.

Holy shit!!!!! that's really impressive, if I wasn't very careful about my spendings I would buy this phone the second it became available!
Although I have to say, I'm also wondering how the extra MHz will affect the battery, considering that was one of the main reasons for the previous choice. I sure hope the mystery tech will make it last as long as physically possible :)

The best possible 801 chip and 3 GB RAM, priced under $400....I would ask "HOW?!?!" but I don't want to be the one to look a gift-horse in the mouth. So instead I will say a simple Thank you!!!

I'm running S800 with 2GB RAM on N5, and no way to utilize it yet. S801 higher clock version + 3GB RAM could bring me to moon. #NeverSettle

Having the best processor is great. But is 3gb of RAM really necessary ? As of now, no ! But it does help it become future proof and last longer. Also a nice price point would make me buy this phone without thought when I have to upgrade later this year.

How about below $400 ? Compare to other flagship sell at over $600, this is a steal.
