[GUIDE] ONYX: How to Unlock Bootloader, Install Custom Recovery, Root, Take EFS Backup & More !!

I assume once I TWRP & root, i'll get no more updates from OnePlus, which is fair. Question is... OnePlus does not allow OTA because root or custom bootloader?

I'm interested in root only for system access for better battery stats and some dev ideas, not changing the entire ROM ( Curiosity kills me on why the display eats 25% of battery... )

On XDA someone has successfully rooted device without unlocking bootloader and it's confirmed by other users. I would like to know if I can backup my Unrooted STOCK ROM without root? so that I can restore it for OTA?

display time include the time for which the phone display is ON while using device to access apps and other activities. It provides you the stats how long your battery is running for full charge. More the screen on time better the battery, average screen on time for OPX is 5+ hours.

SuperSU does not work for me. Got the OPX today and installed latest OTA before trying to root. Unlock and TWRP work. Any ideas?

Edit: It seems, flashing the supersu zip via TWRP does not create a single file.
Edit 2: Flashed oldest Stock ROM and now SuperSU works.

Thank you so much for this guide! I have never rooted a phone before now (I was always too scared of voiding the warranty) and this guide looks great! I will get rooting asap!

I've just rooted my OPX again because I wanted the OTA update. When I first rooted I had the SuperSU in chinese. The second time I rooted I installed SuperSU in the playstore before flashing the zip file provided in this tutorial. Now I have SuperSU in english. So just a tip for everyone :)
