because theme's take a lot of development. Substratum is there if you really want themes.

because theme engines make devices unstable ...for example substratum has been reported to cause bootloops...so OnePlus didn't want to take the risk...u can always flash a custom ROM

Substratum theme is the future of theming.

Substratum is an application, downloadable from the Play Store, that utilizes all of Sony's Overlay Manager Service (OMS), found on the official AOSP code review.

CMTE (similar to MI theme) is based on RRO2 system which is deprecated and superseded by the Overlay Manager Service (OMS) within Sony's code in the AOSP code review.

While substratum is still evolving and with every new Android update, it takes more and more hit to make its coding perfect and to ensure it works well with every update.

You can therefore always use substratum themes instead of MI themes as Substratum themes is purely for AOSP ROMs.

    Question answered. Closing thread.
