Checklist Before Posting a New Thread

  1. PLPeeters Jelly Bean Community Expert Sep 2, 2014

    PLPeeters, Sep 2, 2014 :
Members have often asked me what the requirements are for a "valid" thread on the forums.

To clarify that, here's a list of questions you should answer before posting:
    • Will other members benefit from what you are posting?
    • Is your title clear enough?
    • Does your title reflect the content of your post?
    • Are you in the correct category?
    • Are you in the correct language section?
    • Is your post an original thread? (in other words: has it already been posted?)
    • Does your post respect the Terms and Rules of the forums?
    • Is what you're intending to post legal?
    • If it comes from another website, are you authorized to post it here?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, you probably shouldn't post it.

There's an exception for the first question though, which is if you're experiencing a problem and asking for advice (you still shouldn't post it if the answer to any of the other questions is no though).

Regarding the search for existing threads, we know this forum's search engine isn't perfect ;) However, we found out changing your keywords and/or searching with "Search titles only" checked often helps when you can't find a thread. If all else fails, use Google and append "site:forums.oneplus.net" to your query to search only the OnePlus forums (example: "how to get invites site:forums.oneplus.net"). This thread is also an interesting read regarding search.

Also keep in mind that creating threads solely for the purpose of asking for invites is not allowed and neither is asking for invites on threads that aren't offering any.

I hope this helps you guys out and will lead to less threads being closed in the future ;)

Edit: since I'm fed up with people randomly begging for invites in this thread, let me be clear: from now on, whoever begs or asks (call it whatever you want) for invites on this thread gets issued a warning immediately.

I guess I made you do this today. Thanks once again for such a quick response to get this uploaded. I am guessing a lot of people wont follow it but it should at least help the sane part of this great forum.

Maybe you can add " don't create a thread in the Technical Support category, most of the people won't see it".

Those monitoring the forum also need to be nice sometimes. If you'd have to close a thread because you think it makes no sense to you, don't say it's "Useless". Just close it with no offensive comment. We are all here for one reason

That's because they don't show up on the recent threads page. Still doesn't justify posting in the wrong category though, in my opinion... :/

We're nice most of the time. It may be that we kind of lose our cool sometimes, but I guess that's just proof we're still humans after all ;)

I always tend to search for better wording than "useless" though :) Also, we can't just close a thread without saying why, people need to see a reason.

Well if you need some feedback/help from the people in the forum, this category will not be very useful for them. Why posting there if your thread will have 95% less visibility ?
    That's not very community oriented.
